Survey: PPO Deductibles Increase Fifty Percent in 2016, Employer Costs Remain Steady

Employees Take On More Cost for Lower Coverage

The median in-network deductible on an employer-sponsored PPO health plan increased 50 percent, from $1,000 to $1,500 in 2016, yet employer costs remain steady, according to the newly released 2016 Health Plan Survey from United Benefit Advisors (UBA), the nation’s largest independent survey of employer-sponsored benefits. Despite these significant deductible increases, nearly half of all employees continue to enroll in PPO plans, finds UBA.

United Benefit Advisors Releases New Special Report, “Trends in Prescription Drug Benefits”

Almost half (48.9 percent) of employer-sponsored prescription drug plans in America utilize three tiers, and 44.1 percent offer four or more, an increase of 34 percent from 2014 to 2015 and a 58 percent increase since 2013, according to the Special Report: Trends in Prescription Drug Benefits, from United Benefit Advisors (UBA), the nation’s leading independent employee benefits advisory organization. New Survey Data Reveals Health Plan Costs, Options by State and Industry

Health insurance premium renewal rates increased an average of 6.2 percent for all plans in 2015, up from the previous year’s 5.6 percent increase, according to new survey data released from United Benefit Advisors (UBA), the nation’s leading independent employee benefits advisory organization. Small businesses with fewer than 25 employees, which account for five million U.S. employers, were hit the hardest, finds UBA.
