UBA Strategic Carrier Alliance of the Month: Sun Life Financial

Success in voluntary benefits is a two-step process that starts with choosing the right coverage that fills gaps for employees and providing the right amount of education and an easy process for employees to make their elections. Sun Life offers a full suite of ancillary coverage, providing one-stop shopping for employers.

Close coverage gaps with Voluntary benefits

  • Help with paying out-of-pocket medical costs. According to Kaiser Family Foundation’s 2018 survey, families in high deductible health plans (HDHPs) who need urgent care face paying an average deductible of $4,883 out of their own pockets every year—and 23% have deductibles of $6,000 or more. If you have a client whose employees have to pay a deductible before their health insurer pays expenses, consider offering critical illness, accident or cancer coverage alongside the health plan. Read an example of how accident insurance pays over $4,000 in benefits to a family whose daughter tore her ACL playing soccer.
  • Help when you can’t work. One in four employees could miss up to 3 months of work or more during their career due to a disabling illness, injury or even pregnancy (Council for Disability Awareness). Voluntary short- and long-term disability can help employees stay on track with their bills, paying them a portion of their income if they can’t work due to a covered disability. Additionally, Sun Life’s clinical support team helps return employees back to wellness. Watch how Sun Life has helped people return to work after a disability.
  • Help for beneficiaries. Voluntary life insurance brings added financial protection beyond what the employer pays. Approximately 50 million U.S. households recognize that they need more life insurance (LIMRA, Facts about life).
  • More preventive care. Your client’s medical plan provides preventive care services for employees. Complement that valuable coverage with dental and vision insurance to ensure a more holistic approach to overall health and wellness.
