UBA Corporate Staff Update

Posted by: Meg Cipar    Feb 3, 2020

We are sad to announce that Karen Hsu, UBA Director of Compliance, will be leaving UBA effective February 11, 2020. Karen will be moving to a new opportunity that is a wonderful career advancement for her and we wish her every success.

UBA_Main_RGB_WEBSITE2The UBA Board and executive leadership understand how important our compliance services are to you. We were already planning to expand upon our current level of staffing prior to learning of this change. While replacing Karen and adding more resources is a top priority for us, it will also take a bit of time to get there.

Until our Compliance Department is again fully staffed and trained, please understand that there will be delays in responding to most requests. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Please join us in thanking Karen for the significant service that she has provided for UBA since June 2016. Her focus has always been on supporting Partner Firms with the compliance information and resources they need to best serve their clients and support UBA's goal of shared wisdom.

During her tenure at UBA, Karen has had an active role in the success of many programs:

  • Compliance 101 course
  • Compliance Summit
  • Compliance Cafeteria calls
  • Employer Webinar Series
  • In-person compliance training for Partners and their clients

In support of UBA Partners, Karen has also:

  • Answered more than 5,500 emails from Partner Firms on group health plan design questions
  • Produced more than 275 Advisors explaining benefits compliance regulation
  • Presented more than 70 times at UBA conferences, in-person compliance sessions, employer meetings, and online classes

UBA will begin searching for a replacement for Karen immediately, as well as for additional compliance support staff. Matt Meidell, UBA Compliance Manager, will continue to respond to your compliance questions in the meantime.
